Listen for the sound of musket and cannon fire at the Saturday re-enactment, the first bloody encounter of the British invasion which took place just 6 miles north of Plattsburgh.  


The Battle of Plattsburgh Bay



Immerse yourself in the re-enactment of the famous decisive Battle of Plattsburgh Bay. It takes place at Champlain Monument, overlooking the actual site of the 1814 battle.  Military and naval details of the battle are narrated, as re-enactors on land and water demonstrate how the battle of Plattsburgh was fought.  


After approximately two hours of a pitched naval battle, the American forces emerged victorious.  This totally unexpected victory thwarted the British plans to control Lake Champlain and led to the signing of the Treaty of Ghent which ended the was on Christmas Eve, 1814.
